I wrote this a couple weeks after Sally died. It was a striking moment when I realized they remained, without her. The pill boxes were - I don’t even know how do describe it now - but then it was a very hard day.
I put away the pill boxes today
all colorful
and organized
and shaking like rattles. They were just sitting there
on the counter
where they’ve been
for so long.Monday.
Tuesday.Did you take your meds?
Wednesday.
Thursday.We missed Thursday.
Friday.
Saturday.
Sunday.Yes, I want them,
and gulp
and gulp.Yes, I need them,
please.Hopeful.
Colored boxes
full of white
and colored pills.Shaking like rattles.
I hid them today
when I put them away.Edited 2/10/24
